In perhaps their strongest defensive and rebounding effort of the season, the sophomore girls captured a win over a good Rochelle team tonight, 37-25. After matching Rochelle in the 1st quarter, 10-10, on the strength of 3-pointers by Taylor Carlson and Lexie Johnson and a consistent attack on the hoop by Kenzie Schueler, the Knights turned up the defensive pressure and limited the Hubs to 5 points in the 2nd frame, while riding the hot hand of Mya Saltijeral’s 7 points. The Knights didn’t let up in the 2nd half, giving up only 5 points in each of the last 2 quarters. Kaneland was led in scoring by Kenzie Schueler with 12 points, while Saltijeral also scored in double figures with 10. Taylor Carlson had a fine defensive game to go along with an all-around line of 7 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal, Sarah Elliott had another strong rebounding effort, totalling 8 boards, and Olivia Sheehan came off the bench for 6 rebounds and 3 points.
The Knights host Yorkville on Friday at 5:30.
