Kaneland’s Sophomore Girls’ team held Morris to single digit scoring in each quarter while scoring double digits themselves in all but the 4th frame to coast to a 42-23 victory on Friday night. Playing everyone on the roster heavy minutes, Kaneland jumped to an early 12-3 lead after one, as 6 girls scored 2 points each in the quarter. Led by Taylor Carlson’s 6 2nd quarter points, the Knights increased the lead at half-time to 24-11. With the starters watching most of the 2nd half, the bench continued to grow the lead to 25 points before settling for the 42-23 victory. Good team play on both ends led to 12 assists on 19 baskets while only turning the ball over 9 times during the game. Ten of the Knights eleven players got in the scoring column, led by Carlson, who added 4 steals & 3 assists. Payton Pedersen, in her first action since early December, scored 7, while Mya Saltijeral added 6 points and 4 assists. Delaney Lancaster scored a season-high 6 points to go along with 2 steals. Hailey Zimmerman grabbed 4 rebounds, hit a big bucket and added a steal.to her total. The sophs play A.C.C. in the 3rd sophomore game of the Hoops For a Cure Shootout on Saturday at 2:30 at the high school, followed by 3 great Varsity matchups.
