In perhaps their biggest win of the season, the Sophomore Girls basketball team got sweet revenge for an overtime loss by 3 to the Lady Foxes in January, with a come-from-behind double overtime win at Yorkville, 40-36! Mya Saltijeral kept the Lady Knights in the game in a low-scoring first half with 5 points, as the ladies trailed 12-10 at half-time. Yorkville pushed the lead to 23-17 after 3 frames, before Kaneland began applying a devastating half-court trap and some deadly 3-point shooting from Lexie Johnson to catch the Lady Foxes. With the bench mob going crazy, and another 3 from Kenzie Schueler, the ladies were trying hard to get the game to an extra frame. Reaping the benefits of a missed free throw with 12 seconds on the clock, the Knights got the ball down court and into the hands of Sarah Elliott who put up the game-tying shot at the buzzer to send it to overtime. After trading missed shots and turnovers, Kaneland’s Kenzie Schueler took the ball to the hoop to send the game into double-overtime, and then saw Taylor Carlson score the only points of the 2nd overtime as the Knights were successful running out the clock with their delay game and come out on top, 40-36.
Carlson led the Knights with 12 points, 6 steals, 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Elliott added 8 rebounds and a steal to her clutch basket, Jonson finished with 9 points, 3 steals and 3 rebounds, Olivia Sheehan was strong inside with 8 rebounds, and Nora Crimmins had a strong floor game with 8 rebounds, an assist, 2 points and kept the girls organized on the defensive end. Overall, a great team victory!
