The Sophomore Girls dropped an exciting overtime game to Yorkville, 48-45 on Friday night. In a back-and-forth game that featured scoring spurts and droughts by both teams, Kaneland came up a little bit short in overtime. Up 15-10 after 1 frame, the Knights saw the Foxes score the last 5 points of the half to get within 23-21, despite 15 1st half points from Taylor Carlson. The second half was back and forth as the Knights had to overcome a 5-point deficit with 30 seconds to go, capped by an Olivia Sheehan put-back at the buzzer to tie the game at 40 and send it to overtime. The Foxes took advantage of some Kaneland turnovers to put the game away in overtime, outscoring the Knights 8-5. Kaneland had one last chance with .5 seconds on the clock, but the pass was tipped away on the inbounds. Taylor Carlson had another outstanding overall game before fouling out in OT, scoring 19 points while adding 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Kenzie Schueler added 12 points, 6 steals & 2 assists while playing the whole 2nd half & OT. Sheehan was strong off the bench, with 8 points, 8 rebounds and a steal. Sarah Elliott contributed 4 rebounds, 4 points and a strong defensive presence in the middle against a good Yorkville inside game. The Knights travel to Sycamore for a Tuesday night game.
