After falling behind 7-0 to start the game, the sophomore girls righted the ship, took the lead in the 2nd quarter, and rode the hot hands of Taylor Carlson and Kenzie Schueler to control the second half on their way to a 53-42 win over Sterling at KHS Thursday night. Baylee Adami and Karmen Weinrich scored 12 of Sterling’s 14 1st-quarter points as the Warriors took a 14-7 lead, but balanced scoring by the Knights, including points by Carlson, Schueler, Sarah Elliott, Lexie Johnson and Nora Crimmins enabled Kaneland to take a 21-20 halftime lead. Taylor Carlson caught fire in the 3rd quarter with 11 points before turning it over to Schueler in 4th frame, scoring 8 of her game total of 14 points in the quarter. Carlson finished the game with 18 points 4 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, while Schueler added 4 steals and 4 assists to her totals. Elliott and Olivia Sheehan continued dominating the boards, with Sheehan grabbing 11 rebounds and Elliott gathering 7, while Nora Crimmins and Sophie Mullins made significant contributions off the bench. The sophs next game is at Geneseo at 1:30 on Saturday the 26th.
