Kaneland weathered a scare by Saint Charles east in the first inning where The Knights coughed up three runs, but Kaneland still won 10-3 on Saturday. Saint Charles east’s big inning was driven by a single by Izzy Howe, a groundout by Katie Arrambide, and an error on a ball put in play by Lauren Luna.
In the first inning, Kaneland got their offense started when Olivia Ortegel homered on a 1-2 count, scoring four runs.
McKenna Ryan toed the rubber for The Knights. She surrendered three runs on six hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Howe started the game for Saint Charles east. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out three. Madelyn Rouse threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Kaneland socked two home runs on the day. Ortegel had a dinger in the first inning. Danyelle Borysiewicz went deep in the fifth inning.
Kaneland tallied 12 hits in the game. Rose Roach, Borysiewicz, Hailey Roach, and Ortegel all collected multiple hits for The Knights . Borysiewicz and Roach each collected three hits to lead The Knights.
Krista Sbarra led Saint Charles east with two hits in three at bats.
