A strong showing for Kaneland Tennis at the Yorkville Doubles Tournament today. We took three 1st place finishes and three 2nd place finishes.

Our two singles players, Madie Jurasek and Piper Schrepferman played all-out fantastic tennis today. Players and parents from other teams were coming over to watch these two outstanding tennis players play. Girls, that was a joy to watch…1st place.

Erin McMullen and Anna Carlson started off slow but fought through it. They won their 1st set 8-7 against a good Yorkville team that we’ll see again on Tuesday. Even when they aren’t at their best, they’re in every match. I like that about this team a lot. Then they had all cylinders firing as they rolled through their 2nd match against ACC, 8-0. They went up 4-1 against Sycamore in their 3rd match and then lost the rhythm. It was a long hot afternoon. They fought hard in that set, but ultimately lost it 6-8. A solid 2nd place finish for the day.

3rd doubles…Haley Plach and Ingrid Napiorkowski saw it all. They played a #1 singles player from ACC who hit ace after ace, but Haley and Ingrid dug in and went for it. They lost that set 7-8, but they won the moral victory by figuring out how to win games off of that girl’s serve. Then they played a team whose coach got in an argument with them for making a correct call…I mean, they saw it ALL on Saturday. Proud of these girls for the fight and the 2nd place finish. You played some great tennis today.

4th doubles takes 1st place. Ava Mandele was rock solid all day with great groundstrokes. Christel Lamera was a serving machine. Both of them won points in the net as well. They fought hard all day and earned a 1st place finish.

Playing 5th doubles today was Kaitlyn Becker and Lauren Zablocki. I hardly ever talked to them on the courts today because I hardly ever needed to. I don’t think they were behind in any match today at any time. Kaitlyn is a solid groundstroke player and Lauren can apparently place the ball any…place…she wants. 8-4, 8-0, 8-3 wins 1st place.

Our 6th doubles team of seniors Lydia Kasap and Katie Biard played all kinds of good tennis today. They hit good serves, groundstrokes, and net play. In the end they lost two matches, but scored enough games in both of them to earn 2nd place. They should be very proud of how they played today.

Nice job girls, 1st place finish overall. We’re back at it against Yorkville on Tuesday.
