Nice match for our team tonight. Piper Schrepferman set the tone with a strong showing, winning her match 6-0, 6-0. Next off the courts were the captain, Ava Mandele and her partner Christel Lamera. They were all over that match from the get-go 6-1, 6-0…solid tennis at #3 doubles. Now let’s hear it out loud for the next player off the courts…Lauren Zablocki.
She stepped up again today with one of our players injured and won her first varsity singles match. At 2nd singles, she rallied, hustled off the baseline and was in command of the ball all over her court. Congrats Lauren, 6-0, 6-1. The 4th win goes to the team showing the most spirit between points. They’re high-fiving, they’re tapping rackets, they’re shaking off mistakes, they’re hitting winners, they’re serving strong, our #2 doubles team of captain Ingrid Napiorkowski and Haley Plach were next off the court today with a 6-1, 6-4 win. Way to finish it off girls. And last but not least, our #1 doubles team of Anna Carslon and Erin McMullen played a pretty good Morris doubles team tonight. The match of the day. One girl was pretty good at getting to the ball in the net, the other was a very good baseline player. All 4 girls hit winner-groundstrokes, all 4 girls hit winner-volleys in the net. All 4 girls won on their serve. Kaneland won the 1st set 6-2. Then Morris stepped it up and played aggressively. They poached in the middle, they hit harder, they put two in the net, they kept two back. Give them credit, they fought back and won the 2nd set 6-4. The 3rd set was a one-game lead most of the time. Morris up 1-0, then Kaneland up 2-1, then Kaneland up 3-2, then it was 4-4…and Morris went up 5-4. But our girls refused to lose. Returning serves with pace, taking the shots in the net, Anna served a beautiful game to get ahead 6-5…and we went up love-30 with Morris serving, but it wasn’t over. Morris rallied to get back to 30-30. Then Erin got a chance to return for a point and Anna finished it off with a nicely placed cross-court drop shot. 1st doubles brings home the win 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 with pretty much the whole team watching. Nice match ladies. Kaneland wins 5-0.
