We played a triangular on Saturday, so our lineup got to play against two opponents. That’s a lot of good experience for them.
We won both mathches 6-0 (3 singles and 3 doubles matches).
For singles, Marengo had some illnesses on the team, so they had to scratch #1 and #2 singles from their lineup. So Piper just played Evie in a match where they traded lots of great groundstrokes against each other. Both won their matches against Freeport 6-0, 6-0.
Our doubles teams are still ironing out some bugs with shot selection and reducing unforced errors. Saturday was a really good day for them because Freeport had a couple of pretty good doubles teams. If we didn’t get it right, we would have lost those matches for sure. We’ve been focusing a lot on contact points (the place in your swing when you actually conact the ball). The pace of the ball at #1 and #2 doubles is still new for us and we’re changing how we prepare the racket to get to our contact points. Today was a good day for all 4 of these girls because they got it right more than they didn’t. Lots of good groundstrokes today and solid net play got us the wins at #1 and #2 doubles.
#3Doubles was split between Lauren Kasap and Leanne Steenwyk against Marengo and then Jenna Lin and Dancin’ Mia Bergman against Freeport. Lauren and Leanne played solid the whole match and cruised to a 6-1, 6-0. Jenna and Mia whooped and danced their way to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Freeport.
