The Boys Track Team rolled into Charleston, IL for the state prelims Friday afternoon and came away with 3 boys competing Saturday in Finals!
Nate Bermes was 1 of 12 vaulters in Class 3A to make 14’, moving him on to Finals tomorrow and a chance at a medal! Nate was on point from the get go and it was awesome seeing those pinstripe shorts sailing vertically over the crossbar!
Austin Adams ran a tremendous race in the 800, PRing in 1:57.01and earning a spot amongst the States top 12 tomorrow afternoon. Austin ran 2:12 on February 20th, he’s dropped 15 seconds in 3 months and will be a self described “dawg” as puts on the pinstripes and races for a medal!
Daniel Occhipinti hasn’t PRd in the 1600 all season and that all changed this afternoon as Daniel started kicking with 250 meters left in his race, NEVER gave up, PRd with a 4:22.63, and punched his ticket to the State Finals tomorrow! We talk about finishing every race with no regrets. If Daniel would have pulled up even slightly on the homestretch, he’d be watching the Finals from the stands. Daniel showed so much heart, grit, and how to FINISH with no regrets and that is why he earned his spot amongst the State’s best in tomorrows 1600 final.
I will have a full review of our tremendous weekend out on Sunday after I have time to fully digest just how special this team is and how much I will miss our seniors.
Retired Head Coach: “NOW THAT WAS A TRACK MEET WITH AN OGT MINDSET!!!”
