Rose Roach collected four hits in five at bats, as TheKnights defeated Batavia 14-8 on Saturday. Roach singled in the first, singled in the second, homered in the third, and doubled in the seventh.
An early lead helped propel Kaneland The Knights to Victory. The Knights scored on a single by Roach in the first inning, a fielder’s choice by Olivia Ortegel in the first inning, a single by Roach in the second inning, a error during Hailey Roach’s at bat in the second inning, and a groundout by Maddy Wheatley in the second inning.
After The Knights scored one run in the top of the fifth, Batavia answered with one of their own. The Knights scored when an error scored one run for the Knights. Batavia then answered when Noelle Chaney grounded out, scoring one run.
The Knights took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Roach singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, an error scored one run for the Knights, and Wheatley grounded out, scoring one run.
Kaneland tallied four runs in the seventh inning. Donatela Sommesi, Roach, and Ortegel all drove in runs in the frame.
McKenna Ryan pitched Kaneland victory. She surrendered eight runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six.
Elizabeth Thayer took the loss for Batavia. She went seven innings, allowing 14 runs on 14 hits and striking out four.
Kaneland socked one home run on the day. Roach had a long ball in the third inning.
